You came in on a Friday.
It was just like any other day,
except it was the D-day
when you arrive at the bay
and with me, for weeks you’ll stay
It was like any other day
except, finally, we’ll greet each other, “Hey!”
naturally and with a kiss.
It was effortless. Organic.
Warm and soft, with a little panic -
it was strangely familiar.
But then again, this story’s always been peculiar.
You were reeking of airline food
yet, you smelled so good
My shoes’ heels were made of thick wood
in case, you were some crazy dude from the hood
Maybe it was me who’s crazy
For thinking airline food smelled so good
Then again, memories can be hazy,
yet the daze of the first night surely set the mood
So it was.
A summer full of loving mood,
(a summer never so good).
From beaches to mountain tops,
from long and winding bus rides
to solitary underwater swims,
from ridiculously expensive hotels
to filthy, shady motels
we went.
We held hands,
cuddled,
laughed,
talked,
kissed…
But somewhere, between our usual grind of hopping from one place to another
You uttered nonchalantly, casually warm under the hot weather,
“I love you.”
We kissed for a minute longer
hiding beneath my RayBans, I linger.
With tears I linger; I love you too, my lover.
But the summer is over sooner than later
and apart we’ll be from each other.
It was a Monday when you said goodbye -
a dreadful, rainy Monday,
a cloudy election day.
Seasons are fast changing;
people are blindly hoping.
I try to stop my crying.
But your cackle when I tickle you, keep on coming
Your angry political rants I keep recalling,
and your classic American cool I keep remembering.
I’m smiling.
I’m crying.
We were both crying
on that dreadful rainy Monday we said goodbye.
Until the next Friday we say hello again love,
Until then.
