Dear Kids,
I may or may never have you. But today, smoking inside my tiny single bedroom apartment, I got a glimpse of something so profound. It’s a moment of divine clarity. At last, I have finally figured it out - this whole life business, kids. So, before it gets lost on me, I will write it down. I thought it would be more poetic to dedicate it to someone. So I thought, why not to, possibly, the greatest piece of life I could ever leave this world – you, kids. But who am I kidding! I need this now more than you probably do. So, kids, this is mom: at 26, lost and really trying her best. Here’s what I got, loves:
1) Listen, kids: study science
Einstein was once asked “what does it feel to be the smartest person in the world?” And to that, he answered, “I don’t know. Ask Tesla.” Now kids, this is what Tesla will tell you: “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” So, kids, listen: study science and dig this energy, frequency, vibration business. Really listen to what it means, because by doing so, that you may find your own life’s rhythm.
Do make sure to enjoy the frivolity of loudness, but never too long. There is only chaos behind the loudness. The morning after you attend your first ever party or concert, you will get what I mean.
2) Heed what you hear
I hope I will be able to give you a life full of opportunities – a life that is unlike mine. I hope to provide you a life that will let you follow your own rhythm. But if I don’t, I hope to, at least, have taught you enough courage to still heed what you hear. Your life is, after all, yours. You can only use the “my parents sucked” card so much. Use it wisely.
3) Balance is the rhythm
That’s probably the only real helpful life advice I can give you kids, so hold on to it. Live a life of balance – balance between your body, mind and soul. How? That’s up to you to figure out. (And if you do, time travel to now and tell me how. Please. )
4) Love
Love is probably the only word in the English language that all at once functions as a verb, an adjective and a noun. But I’m not really sure if that’s true - as you, too, will have a hard time defining love. But strive on, it gets better at some point. This much I can tell you though, it has all these three…ALL: respect - the one you have for yourself, most of all - which is the same kind of respect you will regard to everybody and everything around you; kindness and humor. Don’t put up with anything less than all three.
5) Work for money…once
…once or every now and then. This is so you would be tolerant and understanding to those people who lives for money. It should also make you realize why you wouldn't want to spend the rest of your life working for money. This way you will find out, that the current system that the world is founded on is one that is completely, utterly ridiculous: that money is the only value. Kids, this much I will tell you: value is the value of things. Money is just one of it. If you think you could do something to change this current system and help make this world closer to that proverbial “better place”, do. Do so by finding the value that works for you. Do it with whatever values I may have taught you.
I write this list to remind me that a beautiful life – with you in it – is, however remote, a possibility out there. I write this list, because life is too chaotic as it is, that most people even forget to remember. So, kids, as what I’m telling myself now, never forget this: remember.
With all my heart and love,
Future Mom
